Later, he pioneered the land of Sapporo with Tondenhei. Sapporo has successfully replaced Hakodate as the center of Hokkaido. Before the end of the Edo period, when Hakodate was prospering, the Matsumae clan was probably the center of commerce, the center of Hokkaido.
