Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse
At Hakodate’s streetcar station, there is a cross street station or a bus stop. If you get off at that station and go to the coast, you will find the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse. There are several warehouses, and there are many souvenir shops and restaurants inside. It is quite a famous place in Hakodate. This Kanamori Warehouse is the site of a building that was founded as a western goods store by the first Kumashiro Watanabe from Oita Prefecture. Before that, at the end of the Edo period, it was a foreign settlement and a shipyard. What is interesting is that due to the historical background, there are many Western-style buildings related to foreigners, such as the former British Consulate, in the Yamate area.
